FAQ'S

YOGA TEACHER TRAINING FAQ'S

FAQ'S

Is this course only suitable for people wanting to teach?

No. This programme caters to both aspiring teachers and those wishing to deepen their knowledge, and develop personal growth.  However, if one chooses, you will be equipped with all the tools needed to teach, on completion of the course. Quite a few people feel inspired to share the wealth of knowledge they have gained following teacher training.

How much yoga experience do I need?

We generally prefer that you have at least one years’ experience practicing asana, 2-3 times per week. Furthermore, it would be ideal if 3-6 months of this was dedicated to vinyasa flow or aṣṭāṅga. We will take into account those skilled in other disciplines, such as Pilates, martial arts, fitness instructors, and dance.

With that said, if you are versed in the practice, willing to work hard, an  d  have  a   passion for yoga and its philosophy, you are more ready than you know.

Will I be able to start teaching directly after finishing the course?

Yes, most definitely! You will gain plenty of practical experience teaching, including one-on-one, small groups, and in front of the whole class. For you to discover your own voice and be ready to teach yoga, is of utmost importance to us.

Why should I choose to do an intensive abroad, instead of weekend programme spread over several months?

There are limitations and a lack of rhythm to the weekend programmes that take place over a lengthened period. You are unable to immerse yourself in the practice, and completely settle. The Yoga Alliance® accredited Samasthala 200-hour intensive offers the best teacher training, and provides an environment that is enriched in all things yoga.

To go deep, within the philosophy, whilst working on personal practice and self-study, requires effort and your full attention. This is almost impossible to achieve if constantly attending to affairs, such as work, and everyday life.

We offer an optimal setting that facilitates the freedom and space for a rewarding internal journey. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to travel to an exotic location, in which you can immerse yourself within the culture, and sights, when time permits.

What do I need to do to pass the course?

What we require is that students be attentive, and approach their studies with an open mind. They should have respect for the traditions, teachers and fellow students, and a willingness to work.

To obtain a certificate, you must be present at 100% of the classes to fulfil the requirements of Yoga Alliance®. If an unforeseen circumstance occurs that cannot be avoided, we will look to schedule private sessions with an assigned tutor at some time, during the stay.

How do I prepare for an intensive yoga teacher training course?

Keep practicing yoga! It might be beneficial, if you to familiarise yourself a little with the required course material, which you will receive 30 days prior to course commencement.

How much does Samasthala yoga teacher training cost?

You then have the option to become a Yoga Alliance® member. They have certified RYTs in 130 countries and territories, around the world.

Do I need to book my own flights?

Yes – You are responsible for paying for and organising your own flights. Your arrival destination is Denpasar Bali Airport, also known as Gusti Ngurah Rai.

Our driver will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to 'The Mountain Shala'  Bali Mountain Retreat

What do I need to bring with me?

Generally, yoga resorts and teacher training schools, often supply all the required yoga equipment. However, you might prefer bringing your own mat, for a number of reasons, including hygiene and familiarity. If you are travelling long-term, we recommend using a travel yoga mat which is light-weight and foldable so it easily fits into your luggage.

Our recommendation for the best yoga products, is the eco-conscious lifestyle brand  Myga . You can claim a 15% discount on all of their wonderful accessories, once you have signed on with our 200-teacher training.

Bali weather, like anywhere else, has become a little hard to predict. Though very warm, we recommend you pack one light long sleeve top for mornings and evening, and possibly a lightweight rain jacket and one or two layers for when you venture out as it is a little cooler up on the mountain.

You want to be appropriately modest whilst visiting a Balinese temple: shoulders and knees should be respectfully covered for both men and women. The most important requirement is a long sarong/scarf tied around your waist. Both men and women are required to wear one

You may need a couple of notebooks, (one for your personal journal) markers and pens, the Samasthala training manual, Samasthala yin manual, and any other mandatory reading material. Yoga mats will be provided, though most people tend to bring their own, for various reasons.

Necessities such as toiletries, DEET insect repellent, sunscreen, anti-diarrhoea tablets, and hand sanitizer or baby wipes, are strongly recommended. Bring any travel first-aid kits you would normally take on holiday. Furthermore, we very much recommend a strong multi strained probiotic, and digestive enzymes.

Finally, commit to doing some research for what would be required for your own personal needs.

You will surely work up a sweat, but don’t worry we are partnered with a laundry service nearby, to cater to those needs.

What are health precautions I should take before coming?

Please check your local travel clinics regarding vaccinations, and use your own discretion.

Can my friend or partner stay with me?

The intrinsic idea of the intensive teacher training, is that you have the time and space, autonomous of daily life. You are also given the opportunity to form strong bonds with others on the course.

A friend or partner might distract from this experience, which at times is intense and emotionally and physically challenging. This is a rare opportunity, in which you are able to present yourself with this wonderful gift. So why not take it?

How many students attend the course?

We initially cater to small groups, at a maximum of 27 attendees.

Will I have to share my room?

If you feel shared accommodation is not for you, we might be able to offer a limited single accommodation option at an extra cost, dependent upon numbers. Email:  richard-hubert@samasthalayoga.com  for details.

Our shared package deal aims to match our students well, so you have a wonderful experience. This also provides a great support network, during the course.

Will I get time to study?

Y ou will be afforded study time in the evenings and your days off.

Do I get time to socialise?

You will have free time in the evenings to study, read, or play games with the group.

On your days off, there are activities that you can attend or, if you prefer, you can stay within the villa, and simply relax.

Do you accommodate for special dietary requirements?

We can cater to specific dietary requests, such as gluten and dairy free options, if notified in advance.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes, you will be provided with the password on site.

How do I access currency? What funds will I need?

You will get a much better exchange rate in Bali rather than in your home country. We usually recommend waiting until you arrive in Bali to obtain your rupiah. It would be prudent to notify your bank and credit-card companies of the dates you will be travelling, or they might view your transactions as fraud and withhold your funds.

Money changers in Bali can and will exchange all major currencies. In most cases, there is no need to bring any other currency other than your own. Larger denomination notes will get you a higher exchange rate than smaller notes, as will clean, undamaged notes. For those bringing US currency, please ensure that your notes have been recently printed, older notes will not be accepted due to counterfeiting problems in the past.

Traveller’s Cheques can be exchanged at most money changers, but the rate of exchange will be slightly lower. Note that you will require your passport to exchange Traveller’s Cheques.

Credit cards are usually accepted for larger purchases (apart from smaller establishments), department stores and restaurants. Always check though, as they are not accepted as widely as in Western Countries.

The money changers at the airport (just as you leave the baggage claim area) will have a lower exchange rate than those outside the airport in Kuta, Legian, Sanur, etc. We recommend that you only change a little money here to get you through the first 12-24 hours, until you can get to a changer with a better rate.

Remember, meals and accommodation are taken care of, and you are spending most of your time up in the mountains:
Bali Mountain Retreat

Though it is IMPPORTANT, you always have some cash handy. We don’t believe you will need more than £350 expendable cash/account funds, for gifts and excursions on your days off. If you are planning on staying in Bali for a while before or after your training, roughly £500 per week spending money should suffice.

If you are intending to stay longer than the 19 days, ensure you have your additional location is booked and arranged. Furthermore, be mindful, charges will be accrued if you overstay the 30 days allocated with your visa stamp.
